Visita Iglesia @ Singapore

Yesterday was holy Friday, a day to commemorate and reflect on Jesus Christ crucifixion and death to save the people from their sins. To join with the Catholic’s community in remembering this solemn day, my friend and I decided to do a “Visita Iglesia” (my 1st ever) which is visiting 7 churches here in Singapore. We started our journey around 9 o’clock in the morning and below are the churches we’ve visited.

1.   Church of St. Francis of Assisi

By taking Bus 174 from Boon Lay Bus Interchange and alighting at 3rd bus stop we’ve arrived on our 1st stop at 9:30 am. Located at 200 Boon Lay Avenue (S) 649964, Church of St. Francis of Assisi was built in 1976.  It’s my 2nd time in this church, 1st time was when I’ve attended my 1st ever Simbang Gabi in Singapore (with the free arroz caldo afterwards J).   (http://www.sfa-parish.org.sg)

2.   Church of the Holy Cross

Returning to Boon Lay MRT station, travelling to Clementi MRT station, taking bus 183 (or bus 96) and alighting at 3rd bus stop we’ve reached our 2nd church at 10:30 am. Church of the Holy Cross built in 1980 at 450 Clementi Avenue 1 (S) 129955. It’s my 1st time in this church, so I’ve knocked on church main door saying my personal intention in silent (as what one of my friends says, on your 1st visit on church you can ask a wish while knocking on the church’s door J). (http://www.holycross.org.sg)

3.   Church of St. Ignatius

Travelling back to Clementi MRT station, heading to Buona Vista Interchange and transferring to Circle line towards Farrer Road MRT station we came to our 3rd stop at 11:30 am.  In 1961 Church of St. Ignatius was built at 120 King’s Road (S) 268172. My 1st time visit in this church, so I’ve asked my personal prayer and knocked on the church’s door. (http://www.stignatius.org.sg)

4.   Blessed Sacrament Church

Heading back to Clementi MRT station, travelling towards Commonwealth MRT station, taking bus 100 and alighting at 2nd bus stop we’ve arrived on our 4th church with the rain pouring at 12:30 noon.  Situated at 1 Commonwealth Drive (S) 149603, Blessed Sacrament Church was constructed in 1963. I also knocked on its church door with my prayer request J. (http://www.bsc.org.sg)

5.   Church of St. Anthony

Riding back to Commonwealth MRT station, heading to Jurong East Interchange, transferring towards Woodlands MRT station, taking our lunch, taking bus 912 and alighting at 5th bus stop we’ve reached our 5th stop at 3 pm (whew).  Church of St. Anthony in 25 Woodland Avenue 1 (S) 739064 was built on 1927. And again I’ve done my prayer intention while knocking on the church’s door. (http://www.saint-anthony.org)

6.   St. Joseph Church (BT)

Returning to Woodlands MRT station, travelling towards Choa Chu Kang Interchange, taking bus 190, transferring to bus 67 at Phoenix station and alighting at 6th stop we’ve came to our 6th church with a drizzling rain at 4 pm. St. Joseph Church (BT) is where I’ve attend masses previously, located in 620 Upper Bukit Timah Road (S) 678116 built in 1846 (the oldest church in our list). (http://www.stjoseph-bt.org.sg)

7.     Church of St. Mary of the Angels

Taking bus 67 towards opposite Block 26 Choa Chu Kang, transferring to bus 985 and alighting at 14th bus stop we’ve reached our final destination (yehey J). We’ve attend the 5 pm Good Friday service at Church of St. Mary of the Angels in 5 Bukit Batok East Avenue 2 (S) 659918. It is what I consider my home church here in Singapore where I’ve currently attending mass weekly. (http://www.stmary.sg)

After the service, we’ve decided to stay for the station of the cross passion play and nightly prayer (1st time experience also J). Thank God for all the 1st time experiences and hopefully I can do it again next year.

But most of all, I pray that I could be a better deserving child of God; that I could turn back from all my sins; that I could totally surrender all my worries and fears in life to him; that I could always see the good things in life even in difficulties; that I could be contended in life; that I could love others especially those who are against me; and that I could let God lead me to live life according to his will and not mine J.

“Since you are my rock and my fortress,
for the sake of your name lead and guide me. Keep me free from the trap that is set for me,
for you are my refuge. Into your hands I commit my spirit;
deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.” – Psalm 31:3-5
